As we move into fall, I find myself looking forward to making all things cozy: scarves, hats…you name it, I’ve got plans to make it! I’m also looking forward to getting together with friends for our weekly craft night because, let’s face it, crafting is better with friends!
My husband and I don’t have any kids yet (we take the planning part of “family planning” v-e-r-y seriously), but we like to imagine what our future little humans we be like. Will they like plaid? According to my husband, yes. Will they like yarn? I’m a little more realistic and say, well, maybe. But I’m sure they’ll love stories! After all, what kiddo doesn’t like books with adorably illustrated animals?
Today I’m writing a quick review of a craft-themed children’s book, gifted to me by a representative from Bloomsbury Publishing. The book is called Crafty Llama, and it is written by Mark Kerr and illustrated by Renata Liwska. While this book was gifted to me, the views and opinions expressed in this blog post are, of course, completely my own.
In addition to my review, this post also includes a giveaway opportunity! Bloomsbury Publishing has generously donated another copy of Crafty Llama for me to give to one lucky reader!
Here’s my review…
First of all, there isn’t a crocheting character in this book, but don’t worry–lots of fiber crafts are represented, including spinning, weaving, embroidery and, of course, knitting.
The story starts off with Llama, who decides to skip working on chores to make something lovely. Sound like anyone you know?
Llama spends much of the story thinking, trying to figure out something special to do with her day. While she thinks, she knits. After a while, some of her friends decide to join her with their own crafts, and they end up making all sorts of fun and useful things.
I won’t spoil it for you, but Crafty Llama is a very charming story of friendship and creativity. Plus, the illustrations are adorable! This book makes a great addition the small library of books my husband and I have started for our future kiddos, and I’m sure it will be a favorite!
