Crojo, Amis, Sneak Peek and More!

Happy Tuesday, my fellow crafters! I don’t know about you, but it’s starting to get warm where I live. It’s been above 80* F over here, and that’s just about too warm for me! We’re expecting an exceptionally warm summer, and I’m not really looking forward to it. It seems like my favorite rainy spring days are over. Oh well!

Like most of you, I struggle with my crojo in the summer. It’s just so warm! I try to focus my summer crafting hours to smaller projects, like my little amis. Last summer, I didn’t have a lot of crochet time because I was busy planning my wedding.

This summer, we’ll be putting a new roof on our house, so who knows! I don’t plan to be very involved with the roof project (afraid of heights and ladders–not a good helper!), so maybe I’ll have some quality crochet time after all.

You probably know that I’ve been struggling with my crojo lately. And while I think things are on the rise, I have decided that I will not be pressuring myself to complete my Game of Thrones CAL blanket by the end of June. In fact, it’ll happen when it happens. I am getting closer to finishing my House Lannister banner, but it’s slow going. Lesson learned from this project: 50×50 is the largest size c2c piece that I have the patience for!

Here’s a Tuesday Tip for you: Sometimes you just have to know when something is working for you and when it isn’t. And this CAL just isn’t doing it for me right now. If you are stuck on a project and you’ve lost your crojo, if you just can’t bring yourself to continue on that project, don’t feel obligated to keep going. Give yourself permission to stop. You can always pick it up again later.

Of course, I will still be releasing the GoT CAL designs every week. I’m also still working with our awesome team of CAL testers, who are putting together the written instructions for the GoT CAL. I hope to get another set posted today or tomorrow.

The set of mini princess amis is coming along, too! I misplaced my Mulan pattern while I was sick, but she’ll be done this week. Tiana will be next, and she should work up quickly, too! Then it will be Rapunzel.

Quick poll: how long do you think I should make Rapunzel’s hair? As long as she is tall? Longer?

I hope to finish Mulan tonight and get a good solid start on Tiana. Aside from her hair, I think Rapunzel will be pretty easy as well. If all goes well, I might be able to put together the patterns for all three of them this week, which means we will soon be calling for more pattern testers!

Speaking of pattern testers, I’ve heard back from most of the testers for our last set of princess amis. The feedback is very helpful! I hope to have those patterns ready to post soon, too. They’re looking so good, don’t you think?

I am really excited to finish the mini Mulan ami. She is my favorite princess, and I am so excited to see how she will turn out!

This weekend is a 3-day weekend for me AND my husband (a rare treat, since we don’t often have time off together), so we’re going to visit some family this weekend, which means a road trip! And we all know what that means…

Three solid hours of crocheting! *happy dance*

IMG_1017I’ve hinted before that I’m working on a new nerdy project, and I plan to bring it along with me on this short road trip. My new yarn finally came, and it is so pretty! It’s Malabrigo Silky Merino–a super soft, DK-weight, wool/silk blended yarn. The color I’ve purchased is called Matisse Blue, and it is simply gorgeous. My photo doesn’t really do it justice, but it’s a beautiful and subtle blend of blues. I really like it! The only problem is that the fibers tend to snag on each other when you need to frog your work. But if you’re gentle, it’s worth the trouble.

I’m particularly pleased with how my wearable geeyky project is turning out! It’s is a little slow to work up, and I had to restart once already, but it is coming along! Any thoughts as to what it might be? No? I’ll give you a hint…

Again, not the best picture. But you can kind of see what I’m on about with the blues in that yarn! Isn’t it lovely?

Anyway, I’m off to sew Mulan’s arms to her body and start working on her hair. Happy crafting–and remember, if you too are struggling with your crojo, you’re not alone! <3 <3
