Darth Vader (Star Wars CAL)

Happy Friday, crafters!

The sad news is, I’ve lost my CAL crojo. I haven’t felt like working on this CAL all week, and I only just started work on Darth Vader (I still don’t even have the Light Sabers done).

But the good news is, I’m still posting graphs! With the weekend coming up, I’m hoping to at least finish Darth Vader and get at least halfway done with our next square. The Light Sabers will be a WIP throughout this CAL, I think. Oh well.

A special note about this Darth Vader square: don’t use flat black yarn if you’re using the sparkly black yarn for the background. The flat black yarn gets lost and the borders of Darth Vader’s helmet are difficult to see. Instead, I’ve been using Vanna’s Choice in Charcoal Grey. I did it in VC – Dark Grey Heather, but it’s still a little too dark. The Charcoal Grey is just slightly lighter than the black, but it’s just light enough to make a difference. You can still use black if you prefer–maybe even stitch a grey outline around his helmet–just do whatever looks best to you!

The color changes in this square aren’t so bad, but you do need to pay close attention to the graph/written instructions. I had to take out a few parts of rows as I’ve been going because I wasn’t paying attention. Whoops!

You can download the PDF for the Darth Vader panel here.

*EDIT: There was a slight error in the notes section for this square. To start, chain 52 (50+2 turning chains), not 152. The PDF above has been updated to reflect this correction.

This PDF contains the graph and written instructions for working the panel in straight HDC, doubling up the rows/stitches as I am.

Note: The arrows on the graph are designed for those using C2C to work this project.

Next week’s panel will be our Storm Trooper!

As always, happy Friday and happy crafting!

  1. On the darth Vader you show only 2 colors, but in the instructions you mention 3 colors, I don’t understand., please explain, for I am stuck…

    1. Hi Sylvia,

Darth Vader requires black and gray, plus whatever background color you are using for the square. So it’s a total of 3 colors (unless your background color is the same as one of the square design colors). Hope that answers your question!

      1. So, if I’m using only 2 colors, how do I read the instructions if it is written for 3 colors?

      2. On row 4 you have
        What is sg?
And how do I do this row if I’m using just 2 colors, black and sh?

      3. My apologies! I have the “SH” wrong in the legend. It should be SG. So for row 4 you would do:

        – 2 blocks in your background color
        – 2 blocks in blac
        – 8 blocks in silver grey (SG)
        – 26 blocks in black
        – 8 blocks in silver grey
        – 2 blocks in black
        – 2 blocks in your background color

Hope that clears things up! 🙂

  2. Two hearts crochet first let me thank you for sharing your wonderful patterns. I have done c2c star war blanket turned out great, I’m trying to do dark Vader in hdc but can’t get my head around it, I think I can’t be reading it right if I put two hdc in my 50 chain surely I’d end up with 100 sts. Where am I going wrong, when you say work two sts per block can you explain what you mean.hope to hear from you soon many thanks😩
