Simple Crochet Coaster Pattern

Happy Monday, crafters!

Every weekend, Mr. M and I trade off hosting duties with some friends of ours and have a fun night of dinner and board games. This weekend was our turn, and I realized that since we just replaced our dining room table, we needed some coasters to keep it watermark-free!

A set of four of these coasters worked up in about 20 minutes, and I just love them. I still need to block them so that they lay nice and flat. But even as they are, they worked PERFECTLY, and I just had to share them with you! (I apologize for the poor photo quality; I used my phone for an on-the-go photo-op this morning as I left the house!)

Simple Crochet Coaster Pattern

  • Any worsted weight yarn in a color of your choice (I used a Red Heart Soft yarn in Cherry Red)
  • Size I 9/5.5mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needles

Coaster Pattern:

Rnd 1: Make a magic circle and ch 2. Work 8 hdc in the center of the circle. JOin to the beginning of the round and ch 2.

Rnd 2: Work 2 hdc in each st around. Join and ch 2.

Rnd 3: *2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next st* – repeat around. Join and ch 2.

Rnd 4: *2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts* – repeat around. Join and ch 2.

Rnd 5: *2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts* – repeat around. Join and fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Using a tapestry needle, weave in the ends.

This pattern can even be changed up to include stripes or other color fun. I made one coaster in Mr. M’s favorite locomotive colors (BNSF orange and green, for those who are interested), and he will not stop using it, even on surfaces that don’t require the love and care of a coaster (i.e. our junky coffee table).

I can’t wait to make more of these in fun spring colors. Happy crafting!

***Please feel free to share this pattern with other crafters! You may make and sell products from my patterns, but I ask that you please link back to my post. Please do not copy this pattern and claim it as your own. Let’s share the yarn-crafting love!***
